About the Program

Have you ever wondered at the end of the year why you didn't hit your organizational goals? Do you ever look around and see others excelling while your team is executing the status quo? Do you ever feel disorganized, like you are running around putting out fires all day long? If so, you are not alone.

Strategic planning is one of the most misunderstood and misused tools that leaders have in their arsenal. Too often leaders take either a "ready - shoot - aim" approach or approach it from a mindful planning process with little to no focus on actual execution. Too often these individuals create a beautiful plan that sits on the shelf collecting dust until the next fiscal year when everyone wonders "Why didn't we hit our goals this year?"

Join the Las Vegas ASTD Chapter on Friday February 15th at MGM University as we host Russ Faulkner from Your Training Team for this critically important program focused on assisting you build and maintain a plan for success for your department.

In this program we will...

Focus on why we plan ... We start by understanding the importance of a strategic plan and the steps to effective planning. Then we will connect the planning process to your organization and explore how we can show IMPACT VALUE to our institution through this process. Strategic planning in your department today is more important than ever as we must effectively communicate budgetary, staffing or learning needs to meet the needs of our company.

Discuss why planning isn't perfect  ... Next we will focus on some of the common pitfalls and how to not only to mitigate them, but also turn those obstacles into critical success factors for your department!  Let's face it - Planning isn't perfect, sometimes it can go wrong and that is OK.  Abraham Lincoln once said, "Success is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm."  So even if you have tried the planning process before and did not have the success you intended, its time to get back in the game!

Provide tips for keeping the plan alive ... – Next, we take a look at how you can keep the plan 'top of mind' and ensure that it doesn't just collect dust on the shelf. Developing the plan isn't enough, you have to live it!  We will also discover innovative ways that you can communicate your plan to various constituents while gaining buy-in and support from them to help YOU succeed.
